Back-To-School Writing
Writing Activities to Help Students at the Start of the School Year
Help students in your class get to know one another better through writing. Writing A-Z Back-to-School
Writing activities provide investigative opportunities for students to have fun learning about each
other while improving their writing skills.
Back-to-school time can be tough for some children. Back-to-School Writing resources serve as
icebreakers to help students become more comfortable in the classroom. Writing activities can also
help inform you about student writing skills at the beginning of the school year so that you can
plan instruction for each student.
How to Use Back-To-School Writing
Each Back-to-School Writing activity asks students to write different kinds of information about
themselves or a partner. Print and hand out one or more of the activities to help your students ease
into their new class.
Some activities are designed to be completed at home with parents or guardians. Other activities can
be done in the classroom either individually or in pairs.
